Kano govt. to train nurses, doctors on cancer treatment

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has said that the state will engage experts to train its nurses and doctors as soon as its modern “Cancer Centre’’ is completed.

Ganduje stated this when he received the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Kano State Council.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr. Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, on Thursday in Kano.

“Very soon, we will engage some experts in the area of cancer treatment, to come and train our nurses and doctors on cancer treatment.

“This administration gives great attention to the health sector of the state; there is no doubt that we have improved the health sector and I am happy that this important association has recognised that.

“Our cancer centre is of international standard. I was in Melbourne, Australia, when I visited their Cancer Centre and promised to put on ground something like that in Kano.

“This is what we are putting in place now,’’ Ganduje said.

According to him, because of the overstretching effect of the state population on health care facilities my administration decided to establish more hospitals.

“Being (one of) the most populous states in the country, it means more health care facilities are needed.

“Sometimes we receive patients from far away Niger Republic, apart from those coming from other states of the federation,’’ he said.

The governor commended members of the association for doing their work diligently.

Chairman of the association, Comrade Ibrahim Maikarfi, commended the governor for the feats he had achieved in the health sector in the state.

“It may interest you to know that since your coming to office as a governor our members were not involved in any strike.

“This shows your unrelenting effort and commitment to the sector,’’ Maikari said.
