The two officials of the Emure Local Government Area of the state that were kidnapped by unknown gunmen have been freed.
News of the freedom was broken by the Ekiti State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu on Saturday.
The two officials, Pastor A. Onaade and Dr. O. Fashina, were kidnapped while returning to Ado Ekiti along Ikere-Ise-Emure road Wednesday night.
According to DSP Ikechukwu, Onaade who is an accountant, and Fashina, who is in charge of primary health care, were freed from their abductors by the police.
The Command’s spokesman told journalists that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Asuquo Amba visited the kidnap victims in their respective homes and they are fine.
He said: “The commissioner of police had visited them, they are in good shape. It is the duty of the police to ensure that everybody is safe and that we shall continue to do.”
He, however, did not mention the actual location where the victims.
On the issue of whether they paid ransom to regain their freedom, Ikechukwu said:
“The victims never brought this to our notice, they didn’t tell us they paid anything.
“All we did was to do our work and ensure that they returned home safe and in good health and that we had achieved.”
ElombahNews had reported that one Mr. Abayomi Ajayi was killed by the assailants during the incident.
