Kidnapped UBEC Chairman Paid N60m Ransom To Regain Freedom
The kidnapped Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission [UBEC], Dr Mohammed Mahmoud Abubakar reportedly paid a whopping N60 million to kidnappers to be freed by his captors, ElombahNews has gathered.
The revelation was made by one Abdullahi Sani in a short memo made available to ElombahNews on Friday.
Dr Mahmoud Abubakar, it could be recalled, was abducted along with his daughter.
According to Sani, he listened to a disturbing audio of Dr Mohammed Mahmoud Abubakar, with a facilitator discussing the urgency to pay the N60 million ransom as requested by his abductors.
In the clip within the first 24 hours the sum of N43 million was raised while the Chairman was frantically making an appeal for the remaining balances of N17 million to be raised within one hour.
He was later released by his abductors.
Reacting to the N60 million ransom paid by Dr. Abubakar, Sani expressed worry that ‘the inherent dangers is, if a ragtag bunch of idiots illiterates can make N60 million in 48 hours, he am afraid Dr. Mohammed is not the last victim of the kidnappers.’
Other reports say, however, that the family of the kidnapped UBEC chairman, daughter raised N13 million as ransom and not N60 million.
