Kidnappings in Awgu L.G.A, who is behind this sabotage?
By Eneh Victor Chigozie
It has become imperative for ndi Enugu State, especially the leaders and security agencies, to look inward and find out exactly what is happening within the Awgu axis of the state in relation to the recent kidnappings.
Just yesterday, the National Youth Leader of PDP, Hon Udo-Okoye was kidnapped after he visited his farm at Mgbowo. He was kidnapped within the same axis that a Permanent Secretary, Traditional Ruler and his wife were previously kidnapped. It was on that same axis that Rev Father Offu was murdered.
It is important to note that Enugu-PortHarcourt expressway is a very busy truck A road that collects traffics from different locations through Enugu to Imo, Abia and down to Rivers State.
It has been noted that the dreaded kidnappers operate around the Agbogugu end of the Port Harcourt expressway.
How come these kidnappers target only political and religious leaders from Awgu in a busy truck A expressway that has so many travellers of different social status?
It is time for the security agencies to do the needful. The President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo and other leaders have expressed concerns on the possibility of internal sabotage to the security architecture in the state.
In the case of Hon Ude-Okoye, how did the kidnappers know that he went to his farm and ambushed him on the road? Who are those giving out information on the victims and their movements?
The kidnappings along truck A roads like Ore-Lagos and Abuja-Kaduna expressways are done randomly. But in this case of Enugu-PH expressway, it is only ndi Awgu that are targets.
While the security agencies are charged to do the needful, the political class from old Awgu division has been silent on this criminal act going on in their area. They should speak out and help in unraveling the growing insecurity in their place.
It is not only leaders from Awgu that pass through Agbogugu axis of the Enugu-PH expressway, but for the kidnappers to target only ndi Awgu call for concern.
