Prostagel (Natural Supplement For Prostate Health)
Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) is a common condition that becomes increasingly prevalent in aging men. BPH affects 8% of all men at the age of 40, 60% of men in their seventies, and 90% of men in their eighties. One fourth of these men will develop moderate-to-severe lower urinary tract symptoms that will greatly affect their quality of life. No risk factors have been identified other than having normally functioning testicles
After age 40, the prostate begins to enlarge.
The reason for this enlargement is unknown.
Every man will have an enlarged prostate if he lives long enough.
An exception is made for men whose testicles have been removed (castration)
As the prostate enlarges, it presses on the urethra and narrows the pipe through which urine passes.
Two sets of symptoms present and they are called obstructive and storage symptoms.
ACUTE URINE RETENTION – sudden inability to pass urine. The bladder fills up and becomes very painful.
CHRONIC URINE RETENTION – the bladder slowly fills up and extends to 4-5 times its normally size. This is often painless but overfilled bladder leaks urine. High pressure in the bladder may damage the kidney.
INFECTIONS OF THE BLADDER – because the bladder does not empty completely, the retained urine may get infected and there may be burning sensation while urinating.
BLADDER STONES – retained urine in the bladder may form crystals which grow to bladder stones.
BLEEDING – sometimes an enlarged prostate may bleed.
Prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia-BPH) described above is different from prostate cancer, although both often occur together.
BPH does not increase your risk for prostate cancer.
Features and benefits
Saw palmetto is the most popular herbal treatment for symptoms associated with benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlargement of the prostate). Saw palmetto oil is an accepted medical treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in New Zealand and in France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, and other European countries .Saw palmetto doesn?t shrink the overall size of the prostate, but it seems to shrink the inner lining that puts pressure on the tubes that carry urine.
Lycopene is one of the most potent antioxidants, it helps to relieve symptoms of an enlarged prostate .The results of a study published in the November 2003 issue of ?The Journal of Nutrition? show that lycopene inhibits the growth of prostate cells, leading the authors to conclude that it may have an effect on the enlargement of prostate tissue. Clinical research findings published in the January 2008 issue of ?The Journal of Nutrition? also found that lycopene inhibited prostate enlargement.
Its antioxidant effect can help protect prostate cells as well as the DNA from oxidative damage.By mopping up reactive oxygen species, lycopene prevents damage to the tissues of the prostate gland as well as the mutation of prostate cell line.
Lycopene can also induce the proteins regulating cell growth. Even though prostate cells become less responsive to these regulatory proteins with age, lycopene can increase the production of these proteins, and, therefore, improve the regulation of the cell growth cycl
Pumpkin seed extract .
Pumpkin seeds have long been valued as an important natural food for men?s health. This is in part because of their high zinc content, which is important for prostate health (where it is found in the highest concentrations in the body), and also because pumpkin seed extracts and oils may play a role in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, or enlarged prostate).
The combination of lycopene, selenium and saw palmetto was more effective for reducing the weight of prostate gland as well as for inhibiting hyperplasia of prostate cells than saw palmetto alone.
Pygeum Africanum Treats symptoms of enlarged prostate, significantly reduced urinary frequency and pain during urination.Because the active ingredients of pygeum work by different but complementary mechanisms, the herb represents an important natural remedy for BPH.
Pumpkin seed extract Pumpkin seeds are a rich source of zinc. Zinc is important in boosting immunity, cell growth and division, skin health, insulin regulation, and male sexual function.
Horse chestnut extract The high content of aescin in horse chestnut provides anti-inflammatory properties which is especially useful if the enlarged prostate is linked to vascular dysfunction.
Vitamin D3 Although, humans make vitamin D in their skin, vitamin D receptors are found all over the body including in the prostate. Different studies have identified vitamin D deficiency to increase the risk of prostate cancer. Vitamin D prevents the excessive increase in the population of prostate cells. It inhibits the differentiation and proliferation of prostate cancer cells.
Studies have also shown that the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties of vitamin D are all useful for reducing the size of enlarged prostates. These studies also identified 1, 25-dihydrovitamin D or calcitriol as the form of vitamin D that benefits the prostate.
Vitamin K2 Vitamin K is another family of related vitamers. The natural forms of this vitamin are vitamins K1 and K2.
Of these two vitamers, vitamin K2 is the only one that can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Studies have also shown that combining vitamin C and K provides better results in the treatment of prostate problems. Vitamin K is another family of related vitamers. Selenium Selenium is a trace but essential mineral in humans. Its chief role is as an antioxidant and it is incorporated into a family of antioxidant selenoproteins in the body. Therefore, selenium can reduce prostate enlargement by providing antioxidant protection against oxidative free radicals. In addition, selenium can reduce the production of PSA in the body.Lastly, this mineral can reduce the pain and inflammation associated with BPH by inhibiting prostaglandins.
Magnesium Magnesium the Master MineralThe prostate muscle should be maintained with the most important mineral for muscle health, magnesium
Zinc A healthy prostate gland contains around seven times more zinc than an enlarged, inflamed or cancerous prostate. Zinc is the most widespread mineral deficiency in this country, so it becomes essential for all men to supplement with zinc. 30 mg to 50 mg* of zinc .Zinc is the mineral most required by prostate tissue and it offers several other benefits. Zinc displaces cadmium in the prostate and this heavy metal is a major sponsor of cancer.
