Kogi Poll: Natasha Petitions Tribunal, Asks INEC To Conduct Fresh Polls
The Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the November 16 Kogi Governorship election, Barr. Natasha Akpoti has filed a petition with the State Election Petition Tribunal expressing total dissatisfaction with the election which saw the incumbent governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello emerge victorious.
Recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] has declared Governor Bello of the All Progressives Congress [APC] winner of the election.
Barr. Akpoti in the petition, urged the Tribunal to ask Gov. Yahaya Bello to vacate the seat and order INEC to conduct a fresh election, pointing out that the election was marred by irregularities and violence.
She also added in her petition that there was no election held in the state on November 16.
She sought the tribunal to declare the election as null and void ab initio following the omission of her name from some of the results sheets, disclosing that writing her name with Biro on the result sheet was an afterthought.
The SDP candidate also joined Chief Edward Onoja, INEC and APC as respondents in the suit.
Akpoti was at the tribunal office on Sunday night at about 11.00 pm, completed all the signing of the petition thus beating the deadline.
Also joined as the second petitioner in the suit filed by the candidate is Mouktar Atimah, the State SDP Chairman.
