The ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) in Kwara State is rumbling as a street brawl between supporters of two leaders of the party has left many hospitalised.
It was gathered that the clash took place on Sunday during separate ward rallies in Offa by the political leaders —.the Commissioner for Water Resources, Femi Agbaje and Senator Lola Ashiru.
The state Police Command spokesperson, Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident in which dangerous weapons were reportedly used freely by the supporters.
One person, who was shot in the head is said to be in critical condition at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Ilorin.
Eyewitness said that other injured persons were taken to undisclosed hospitals in Offa.
The police spokesperson, Ajayi , however, mentioned only two supporters of the commissioner as being injured. He was silent on what happened to the supporters of Senator Ashiru.
He said: “At about 3: 45pm on Sunday, while on a rally in his ward around Tumade area of Offa, Commissioner of Water Resources, Kwara State, Alhaji Femi Agbaje, and his group were allegedly attacked by some hoodlums wielding dangerous weapons and two of his men were injured in the fracas.
“The hoodlums disappeared before the arrival of policemen to the scene. The two injured victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.
“The commissioner of Police Kwara state, Mohammed Bagega, has ordered an investigation of the incident.
“Effort is still in progress to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.”
