Lassa Fever outbreak has hit Anambra and Ebonyi States after a patient was diagnosed of the deadly disease in a spate of the latest nationwide outbreak.
PREMIUM TIMES reported that the patient is a student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (UNIZIK).
She was said to have been on admission at the University’s clinic for some days before she was referred to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.
The patient was diagnosed with the disease and further tests at the Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State, confirmed that she indeed has Lassa fever .
Subsequently, she has been transferred to the Virology Centre in Ebonyi and handed over to the federal government for treatment.
Consequently, concerned residents are calling on relevant authorities and the state governor, Willie M. Obiano to, with due sense of urgency, bring the instruments of the state government to wade into the issue before it escalates.
Our correspondent, Mr. Odumodu Gbulagu, who drew the attention of ElombahNews to the development, reasoned that there must have been people she came in contact with while in the University clinic before she was transferred to Amaku Teaching hospital and then onward to the virology center in Ebonyi.
A recent wave of Lassa fever outbreak across the country has seen at least forty-one persons dead with Ondo State paying the highest price with about twenty deaths.
