Lawan Pledges to Ensure Actualization of Proposed Federal Varsity of Medical Science, Iyin-Ekiti

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has pledged that the proposed Federal University of Medical and Environmental Science will become a reality.

Lawan made this known while hosting Community leader from Iyin-Ekiti led by by HRM Oba Adeola Adeniyi Ajakaiye who was in Abuja to contribute to the deliberations at the public hearing of the Senate committee on Health on a Bill seeking to establish the Federal University of Medical and Environmental Sciences, Iyin.

The assurance came 24 hours after the Governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi Lobbied the Senate for the actualization of the Varsity and 48 hours after same delegation met with Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Vila in Abuja.

The team was accompanied by Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) representing Ekiti Central, the sponsor of the Bill and an illustrious son of Iyin-Ekiti.

Oba Ajakaiye conveyed the appreciation of Iyin-Ekiti community for progression of the bill thus far while also soliciting for his support for its final passage.

Senator Lawan welcomed the team warmly and made it emphatically clear that the 9th Senate is one, united and indivisible.

He specifically congratulated Oba Ajakaiye and the entire community for having such a son as Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele who he described as a ‘Pillar in the Senate’

He stated that since he met Senator Bamidele in the run-up to his Senate Presidency bid in 2019, he had found in him a trustworthy and dependable ally whose calm demeanor brings stability to the Senate.

The Senate President promised to do everything it requires to ensure the passage and thorough implementation of the Bill, describing the Bill as timely, progressive and duly sponsored by a ‘respected colleague’s and ‘trusted brother.’

Oba Ajakaiye, on behalf of the team, thanked the Senate President for his words of assurance and promised to convey same to his people at home.

The first class monarch also seized the opportunity to brief Senator Lawan on some of the community development activities and plans within his kingdom, including in the area of security, agriculture and infrastructural development while expressing a desire by the community to work much more closely with the Senate President as a frontline leader who can add value to the community.

He also said the Oluyin-in-Council, which is the body of the entire traditional chieftaincy title holders and community leaders, would consult with Stakeholders and their illustrious sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to determine what specific role would be carved out for the Distinguished Dr. Ahmad Lawan. It was indeed a happy session together.
