Dulmaa Nyamkhuu, Director-General of the Mongolian National Centre for Communicable Diseases (NCCD), was removed from his post on Thursday for not properly performing his duties, local media reported.
Mongolia is a landlocked country in East Asia, bordered by China and Russia, known for vast, rugged expanses and nomadic culture
Nyamkhuu dismissal comes after the poor treatment of a woman who had tested positive for COVID-19 and was transferred from a maternity hospital to the NCCD together with her newborn baby on Tuesday night.
Mass public protests were triggered in Ulan Bator on Wednesday as the woman wore slippers and no outerwear in freezing weather during the transfer.
In addition, Mongolian Prime Minister Ukhnaa Khurelsukh has proposed the resignation of his entire government after two ministers announced their withdrawal due to this issue. (Xinhua/NAN)
