Monguno: I Don’t Know Whereabouts Of $1b Security Fund
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd) has said he does not know the whereabouts of the $1 billion approved by the National Economic Council (NEC) to buy Tucano aircrafts from the United States.
Monguno stated this while briefing journalists at the end of the second meeting of the NEC yesterday in Abuja.
Meanwhile, the money has been approved since December 2017 to be used for tackling of the security challenges bedevilling the country.
.He said: “The $1 billion I believe that you are talking about was actually earmarked for the military, not for security agencies like the intelligence community and the paramilitary agencies.”
Monguno, it could be noted, coordinates the security architecture, hence security spending falls under his purview.
Saying that the money was meant for the military alone, he stated that he could not categorically state whether it had been disbursed or not.
The said money was approved following the upsurge in Boko Haram insurgency, herdsmen killings, kidnappings and banditry in northern Nigeria.
