My Life, My Vision As A Philanthropist ~ By Yinka Banire
Charity!!! A word that echoes in my heart especially during this auspicious period that the world is faced with a serious deathly virus, the novel Corona Virus ravaging the world and creating more vulnerables in our society. When I see the vulnerable in our society, it reminds me of God’s nudging in me to be an instrument of His in giving to those in need.
I find it very easy to understand the frustration and how overwhelming it can be to be poor. Knowing that I am privileged to help others is an honour as I am humbled to empower the vulnerable in the society. Doing this gives me joy and fulfillment.
Pope John Paul II says, “nobody is so poor that he has nothing to give, and nobody is so rich that he has nothing to receive.” Therefore no act of Kindness is too small.
Giving, generosity and kindness are commands in the Bible that they are accompanied with their blessings and rewards.
Being charitable gives me a refreshing feeling of social consciousness and a moral duty to use what I have to help others. A calling very much rooted in my personal values and principles.
See what the Bible talks about giving;
Proverbs 11:25: “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
Psalm 112:5: “Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.”
Hebrews 13:16: “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
Acts 20:35: “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
2 Corinthians 9:6-8: “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Being charitable is vision and an opportunity to carry out a command from God in our society. Therefore, I solicit for your prayers and encouragement. God bless us all.
