The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) on Thursday morning sealed off the assets of three companies belonging to Senator Ben Murray Bruce who represents Bayelsa Senatorial district in the senate.
The companies affected by the takeover are Silverbird Galleria Limited, Silverbird Promotions Limited, and Silverbird Showtime Limited.
AMCON had, by notice of appointment dated April 18 appointed Muiz Banire as Receiver/Manager over the sprawling assets of the three companies located at 133 Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, Plot No 1161 (Silverbird Galleria); Central Area Cadastral Zone AOO, Abuja; and Abonnema Wharf Road and Abali Park in Port Harcourt City of Rivers State.
Ben Murray Bruce, noted for his slogan, ‘I am Just Making Common Sense’, is a strong critic of Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari and his ruling party, APC.
in his of his quotes, he said that ” Nigeria’s biggest problem is not corruption, a bad economy, terrorism or crime. These are just symptoms of the problem we face in Nigeria. Nigeria’s biggest problem is that we are not united.”
Bruce who was the DG of Nigeria Television authority when Olusegun Obasanjo was Nigeria’s president is a kinsman of former president, Goodluck Jonathan and represents Goodluck Jonathan’s Bayelsa East district in the Senate.
He has severally criticized the war against corruption as waged under the present administration.
Just yesterday he wrote on his facebook:
“I appreciate the anti-corruption war, but I wish our media could also carry headlines of economic progress instead of incessant arrests by DSS/EFCC. We are so fixated on the anticorruption war that we are not noticing the steep decline in our economy. In one day, Aliko Dangote lost $3.7 billion according to Bloomberg.
“The only business booming in Nigeria today is the business of arresting and detaining. I would not mind if we are arresting economic decline! President Obasanjo fought corruption, but he also grew the economy. And he did this with oil at $15 per barrel (today it is $48). Low oil price is no excuse.”
Two days ago he also wrote:
“Our only alternative to oil is education. Brain resources are greater than oil resources that is why Apple Inc is more valuable than Exxonmobil. Apple is powered by brain power while ExxonMobil is an oil and gas company. Locally, we are seeing the same thing with states in the Southeast who are investing in education.
“They are developing faster than those states who have a heavy oil and gas economy. Nigeria must make a mental shift. Our priority must be to educate our people and develop our infrastructure. Once that is done, they will employ themselves.”
