Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Sokoto Area Command said it collected over N 2.4 billion as revenue between January, 2016 and March, 2017.
The outgoing Controller of the command, Mr Sani Madugu, disclosed this in Sokoto on Monday, while handing over affairs of the command to his successor, Mr Nasiru Ahmed.
Madugu said that the command collected N 2.09 billion from January to December, 2016, surpassing its N 1.7 billion target for the year.
He added that over N314.87 million was collected between January and March, 2017.
“Our seizures during the period under review also increased, while many things were changed, using the resources from the headquarters.
” I must commend all the officers and men in the command and all the stakeholders for this collective feat.
”I am urging you to extend same tempo of support and cooperation to my successor,” he said.
Responding, the new controller warned the officers and men in the command against conniving with smugglers, adding that they should intensify efforts to raise the revenue collection profile of the command.
”Nobody benefits from smuggling except the smugglers, and by allowing it, you are killing Nigeria’s economy in favour of other nations.
” We should therefore work collectively to reduce the menace to the barest minimum.
” However, do not seize what you are not supposed to seize, be humane and be your brother’s keeper,” he added.
