Nigeria’s Senate clears 10 ministerial nominees

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday cleared ten nominees as ministers out of 21 names initially sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Those already cleared include chief Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Udo Udoma, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Chief Audu Ogbeh and Dr Osagie Ehanire.

Also cleared by the Senate are Lt. Gen. Abdurahman Dambazau, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Amina Mohammed, Engr. Suleiman Adamu and Ibrahim Usman Jibril.

The Senate asked the former governors of Ekiti and Abia states to take a bow and go after answering questions in defence of their nomination as ministers.

Dr. Kayode Fayemi and Dr Ogbonnaya Onu were screened alongside a former senator, representing Akwa Ibom South Constituency, Udoma Udoh Udoma and former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Audu Ogbeh.

Only 10 nominees were screened today, Tuesday October 13, by the Senate.

Others are to be screened on Wednesday and Thursday.

HIGHLIGHTS: It’s ‘Bow and Go’ all the way:

Ministerial nominee from Akwa Ibom, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, sets the ball rolling. He was asked to take a “bow and go.”

The next nominee to enter the podium is a former governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

Rights activist, Shehu Sanni, asked the ex-governor if truly he escaped through an unconventional border during the late Gen. Sani Abacha era.

Fayemi said, “I did not borrow to pay salaries, but borrowed to fund capital projects for Ekiti.”

He was also asked to take a ” bow and go.”

The next nominee to face the senators is Chief Audu Ogbeh.

The ex-National chairman of the PDP was asked to take a ” bow and go.”

The next ministerial nominee is Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.

After acknowledging cheers from the senators he was asked to take a ” bow and go.”

The next ministerial nominee was Dr. Osagie Ehanire from Edo State.

He took questions from senators.

The nominee was asked to take a ” bow and go.”

In all ten ministerial nominees have been cleared by the Senate.

The sixth nominee, Lt. Gen.Abdulrahman Danbazzau (rtd), took to the podium to take questions from senators.

Lt. Gen. Danbazzau has been asked to take a ” bow and go.”

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was the next nominee to face the senators.

He took six bows before the lawmakers – three for Saraki and three for the Senators.

Mohammed was asked to take a ” bow and go.”

After, a female ministerial nominee, Amina Mohammed addressed the Senators, she took questions from the lawmakers.

After taking few questions, she was asked to take a ” bow and go.”

The ninth nominee, Suleiman Adamu, also addressed the senators, Adamu, he was also asked to take a ” bow and go.”

The last nominee for today, Ibrahim Jubril Adamu, introduced himself to the senators. He is a ministerial nominee from Jigawa State.
