Nigeria was specifically targeted by the recent Wannacry Ransomware attack according to the Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami (FBCS).
The DG informed that Microsoft Corporation sent to the Agency its latest patch, which was promptly circulated to the various MDAs across the Country.
Pantami disclosed that the proactive measures employed by the Agency helped to diffuse the threat. however, he said few MDAs that failed to comply with the directives were affected.

“Advancement in technology and globalisation have made it easier for Cyber criminals to penetrate into our systems.” He added that “it is our collective responsibility to secure our Cyberspace.”
Dr Pantami spoke at the 2nd annual conference on Financial Fraud and Cyber Crime, a two-day event organised by the Federal Ministry of Justice and NITDA in collaboration with Organised Private Sector. The conference is holding at the NAF Conference Centre and Suites, Abuja.
