It’s a new legislative day in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Senate President Bukola Saraki leads the Senate Leadership into Plenary and takes the Official Prayers.

Senate now moves for the adoption of votes and proceedings of Wednesday 20th July 2016.

Senator Bukar Mustapha moves & Senator Matthew Urhoghide seconds. Senate President puts the question & the votes and proceedings are approved.

Senate President Bukola Saraki makes announcements. He announces a Letter from President Muhammadu Buhari on the appointment of NDDC board members.

Senate President Bukola Saraki also announces a Letter from President Buhari on confirmation of appointment for Justices of the Supreme Court.

Senator Ben Murray Bruce raises a Point of Order for the evacuation of Nigerians in war-torn South Sudan.

Senator Duro Faseyi also raises a Point of Order on the demise of Senator James Kolawole. Senate observes a 1-Minute silence in his honour.

Senate moves to the Presentation of Reports.

The report of the Joint Committees on Science & Technology and Defense on the Defence Space Agency (Est. Etc.) Bill 2016 SB. 166 is laid.

The report of the Committee on Police Affairs on the Traffic Warden Service Bill 2016 SB. 100 is laid by Senator Abu Ibrahim.

The report of the Joint Committees on Information & National Orientation and Trade & Investment on Unwholesome Practices by Multichoice Nigeria DSTV

The Report of the Committee on Interior on the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) Bill 2016 SB. 173 and SB. 183 is also laid.

Senate now moves to consider the request of the President Buhari on the confirmation of the Ambassadorial Nominees.

Senate Leader moves that the relevant Committee take charge of the confirmation of the ambassadorial nominees. Minority Leader seconds.

The Confirmation of Ambassadorial Nominees is referred to the Foreign Affairs Committee for further action.

Senate Leader moves for the consideration of the request of President Buhari on the budgets of 38 different agencies and corporations of Govt.

Senate Leader notes that it’s the first time ever that the Executive will forward the budgets of these agencies to the Legislature. 

Senators chant Change! Change! Change! as Senate Leader Ali Ndume moves the motion. The Minority Leader seconds the motion.

These agencies include BPE, NASENI, NAMA, NSC, NMA, RMRDC, NSDC, NPS, NPA, FAAN, SEC, NTDC, NCC, NAFDAC, NCS, NBC, NIC, NAN, NCC, NNPC, NDIC, NCA, FIRS, NIS, NERC, CBN, FRCN, FHA, NTA, NADDC, NNRA, NABTEB, FMB, NESREA, ITF, CAC, SON and Oil & Gas Free Zones Authority.

Senate refers work on the budgets of the agencies to the relevant and respective Committees for further action.

Senate now moves to the Briefing of the Minister for Finance Mrs Kemi Adeosun on the Monetary/Fiscal Policies adopted by the nation.

Senate Leader moves that the Senate resolves into its Committee of the Whole for the Briefing by the Finance Minister. Minority Leader seconds.

Senate Leader also moves for the admittance of the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun into the Senate Chambers. Minority Leader seconds.
