Concerned Ohafia Union has refuted the report by The Nation Newspaper which said suspected members of the Eastern Security Network, the arm wing of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), killed over five soldiers in Ohafia during an exchange of gunfire.
In a statement sent to Elombahnews and signed by the groups Publicity Secretary, Kalu Uma described the report as misleading and untrue.
He said apart from the recent invasion of Amangwu community by the Nigerian military, which resulted to the death of two innocent civilians, Ohafia in general has been calm and peaceful.
“The report by The Nation Newspaper is not true. Soldiers were not killed during an exchange of gun fire with Eastern Security Network. There is no ESN in Ohafia. We wonder how The Nation manufactured such misleading and untrue story
“They should have done their investigation properly before feeding such report to the general public. The report appears to be a calculated attempt to incite unnecessary hatred against the people of Ohafia
“We wish to reiterate again that soldiers were not killed in Ohafia. Nigerian army only invaded Amangwu community, shot three innocent civilians. Two died while one is reportedly in the hospital. Many houses and shops were burnt by the rampaging army
“We wish to urge the general public to disregard the report as there is no truth in it”
“We wish to also warn mischief makers to stay away from Ohafia as there won’t be space for them to fuel any form of insecurity. Ohafia will not be used as an experimental ground for such venture”
