Nursing Mother Abandons Baby, Absconds From Hospital On Delivery

A yet to be identified young mother has absconded from hospital, abandoning her baby immediately after delivery at the Primary health care center, Obiuno village of Osumeyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra state.

According to a press statement Police Public Relation’s Officer(PPRO in the state -SP Haruna Mohammed, the yet-to-be identified heavily pregnant lady in labour rushed into the health center at about 11.20am on Monday, June 10,2019.

And that moved by her condition, the health personnel on duty quickly attended to her and fifteen minutes later she successfully delivered a bouncing baby girl.

But unfortunately as the nurses shifted attention to attend to other patients no one noticed when the woman abandoned the baby and disappeared to unknown destination leaving behind the child at the mercy of the nurses at the health care center.

Police operatives attached to Juvenile and Welfare Unit, Osumenyi Division was thereon contacted and have visited the scene and efforts were on to trace the fleeing mother.

But meanwhile arrangements have been concluded to hand over the baby to the state Government orphanage for custody and care.

Also, the state Police Command has arrested a 28-year old Ifeanyi Alagba, a resident of Amoko Road, Ifite Awka for alleged unlawful carnal knowledge of an eleven (11) years old deaf and dumb girl of same address on June 9,2019 while her mother was away.

In a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), SP Mohammed Haruna, detectives from the ‘B’ Division had visited the scene and took the victim to hospital for medical examination and treatment while investigation of the matter continues.
