Obi runs into Victor Umeh at a function

The former governor of Anambra state, Chief Peter Obi, may return to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the political platform that made him. This is authoritative.

Ex-Commissioner for Information and Culture under Obi’s administration, Chief Maja Umeh who is the Chairman of the APGA Reconciliation Committee set up by Gov Willie Obiano disclosed this yesterday in Awka.

Umeh had revealed that well-meaning citizens including Bishops and traditional rulers in the state were making frantic efforts to bring Obi back to APGA so as to bring genuine reconciliation between Obi and Obiano.

Also, yesterday ex-Gov Obi ran into his political arch rival and APGA’s Anambra Central senatorial candidate, Chief Victor Umeh at a social function at Aguluzoigbo, where both had come to commiserate with the family of and former member of the state Assembly Mr Joe Dimobi who buried his dear mother. Both men just met briefly exchanged greetings and parted ways without much air of friendliness.

Obi who dumped APGA for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) late 2014, on Oct 7,2014 in Onitsha, reportedly in preparation and anticipation that the then President Goodluck Jonathan who he had a high level chummy relationship with would pick him as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, may rejoin the party.

The Maja Umeh committee was set up by Gov Willie Obiano to explore all avenues to bring back aggrieved members and those who left due to one unsavory issue or another.

Obi who earlier in the day in a local radio programme in the state squealed that he was obliged to seeing Gov Obiano succeed.

According to him, “I will be the first to be blamed if Governor Obiano fails because I was the person that presented him to the people of the state.”

The committee chairman pointed that it was outside the purview of his assignment to reconcile party members, who had joined other parties, said however it was indeed proper to bring Obi back to APGA. Hear him, “It’s not within my purview to reconcile those who had left APGA, but it is proper to bring Obi back to our party.

“He has shown demonstrable statesmanship and support for governor Obiano, it’s proper to bring him back to APGA. I know that the clergy and our royal fathers are working hard to achieve this. And I don’t think it’s a difficult task to achieve”, he added.
