Obiano Abandons APGA NASS Candidates To Their Fate
Declares interest only on State House of Assembly candidates As Norbert Obi begs Obiano to disband U-AYA
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, yesterday, convened a meeting of all All Progressives Grand Alliance [APGA] leaders in Anambra state.
The meeting was held at the Governor’s Lodge Awka. Those at the meeting were APGA state executive members, all LGA chairmen and their secretaries.
The meeting was aimed at finding an amicable solution to the crisis bedeviling the party as a result of the fraudulent party primaries and its damaging consequences facing the party.
From a reliable source at the meeting, it was gathered that the state chairman of APGA, Chief Norbert Obi spoke extensively on the rape called APGA primaries.
According to him, the primaries was conducted in hotel rooms other than at the designated venues.
Speaking further, the state chairman begged the governor and leader of the party to ban United Anambra Youths Association, U-AYA led by “governor” Chinedu Obidigwe.
According to our source, Chief Norbert Obi complained that U-AYA has constituted nuisance and ran out of its purpose as it has been used to hijack party activities in the state.
He pleaded with the governor to restore his control and hold on the party.
It was gathered that Obiano sharply disagreed with the state chairman of the party at the mention of banning U-AYA. He reportedly told chief Obi that U-AYA has helped his government and party and cannot be disbanded.
The major shocker came when the governor pointedly told party leaders at the meeting that his interest was on ensuring that APGA House of Assembly candidates win at the forthcoming general election.
He did not mention neither did he canvass for support for Senate and House of Representatives APGA candidates.
He was only concerned of the APGA House of Assembly candidates and pleaded to the party members to help reach out to the aggrieved members.
The governor said he has set up a reconciliation committee. At the end of the meeting, they were given 50,000 naira each.
Many of those who attended the meeting were not happy as they claimed that the Leader did not address the main injustice done to many of them.
Some of them said that all the members of the state executive who contested the party primaries were disgraced and rigged out.
They also frowned at the 50,000 naira given to each of them as they were expecting something bigger on the ground that few cabals in APGA made so much money from the aspirants.
The meeting ended with these APGA leaders leaving the venue angrier than they came.
In a related development, the APGA reconciliation committee meeting led by APGA Vice Presidential candidate failed to hold yesterday at Awka.
The meeting scheduled for 2pm at Party Secretariat could not hold as APGA aspirants and aggrieved members invited to the meeting refused to attended.
The aspirants felt short-changed in primaries of the party and demanded the refund of the monies they spent on Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms.
They insisted that refund of their money is the only condition to partaking in any meeting. The APGA VP left the venue disappointed and dejected, it was gathered.
