Obiano pays surprise visit to Onitsha headbridge, fumes at non-compliance

The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, this evening, paid a surprise visit to Onitsha headbridge, Anambra border with Delta .

Surprised at the level of non-compliance to his directives on border closure, Governor Obiano fumed with anger and great dissatisfaction.

Whilst at the headbridge, Obiano saw as vehicles of various sizes, including trailers, passed freely and without hindrance after “setting” the security persnnel at the bridge.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr John Abang, Commissioner for Transport, Dr Christian Madubuko, and other members of the COVID-19 Committee, were also present.

Recall that Governor Obiano, in his last broadcast on Covid-19 update, had announced a shutdown of all boundaries in the State, with exception of essential service provisions.

Information available to ElombahNews shows that the team Ministry of Transport led by Hon Commissioner, Dr Christian Madubuko has been moving round the borders.

Dr. Madubuko noticed various challenges and urged those manning the borders to live up to expectations.

It could also be recalled that ElombahNews had, on April 30, reported that the Anambra State governor deployed some 280 of his over 1,600 aides aides to man the borders of the state as extra securities to guard against encroachment by the Covid-19 pandemic.

An order deploying the aides was contained in an official document released by the state government titled “Special posting of political appointees to critical border locations to help enforce border closure special assistants to the governor“.

This medium gathered that the Governor drafted a list of some of his low cadre aides and inducted them into borders personnel as extra securities.
