Obiano Should Denounce Yari’s Letter To Buhari On NFIU —APC

122

The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has call on Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State to dissociate himself and the Government of Anambra State from a letter reportedly signed by the outgoing governor of Zamfara State, Abdulazeez Yari.

Anambra State APC Publicity Secretary, Arc. Okelo Madukaife stated this in a press release made available to ElombahNews on Tuesday.

The letter was written on behalf of all governors asking  President Buhari to move against the guideline of National Finance Intelligence Unit( NFIU),requesting that Local Government (LG) funds be spent at destination from June 1,2019.

According to Madukaife, this statement became necessary because the mood in Anambra State is roundly in favour of the NFIU position which rather than violate the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, reinforces it.

The statement continues:

“Our party has perused the policy which does not in any way interfere with the legitimate and constitutional duties of any state government , but comes face to face with the breaches to the constitution and public morality perpetrated by many state governors in Nigeria.

“NFIU as far as we can glean from the policy has not issued any directive to abolish the State Joint Account established by Section 162 (6) of the Constitution.

“Rather, it upholds the spirit of the joint account which is to domicile allocations to LGs, get contributions from states through their internally generated revenue (IGR) and distribute to respective LGs in line with the formula established by the State Houses of Assembly.

“The N500,000 daily limit of cash transactions by appropriate authorities in the LGs is also consistent with the Money Laundry Act- a federal law which is binding on all institutions in the federation and not a new law by NFIU.

“We are aware that the government of Anambra State is guilty of abusing LG fund allocation and cannot boast of implementing the stipulations of the constitution in this regard.

“We also know it for a fact that no LG election has held in Anambra State  since 2014 and before then there was a big 14- year struggle prior to the white- washed election of 2014.

“We however have our doubts that the state government cannot read the mood  of Ndi Anambra, who do not wish to tolerate LG fund pilferage anymore.

“It is in this light that we seek assurance from Governor Obiano that he has not joined hands with Governor Yari, who has only days left in his tenure as governor and has conducted LG polls in his state in this pursuit clearly bent against the interest of Anambra State.”

Madukaife, therefore, urged Ndi Anambra to assume, if after one week of issuing this statement, the state government is silent , that Governor Obiano is in cahoots with the Yari-led NGF initiative and he should be treated as an enemy of Anambra State interest.

Further, he wrote:

“We urge all Anambra State Stakeholders to suppress their respective personal interests and see the struggle to enthrone elected LG governments in 21 LGs of Anambra State and create good governance in the state , as this is in public interest, cutting across political affiliations.

“To the people of Anambra State, the need has arisen to demand that monies meant for Aguata, Idemili and Oyi LGs , representing other, should not be pilfered in Awka, leaving gaping holes in the life of an average Anambra Citizen.”
