RE: PALACE SECRETARY RAISES ALARM OVER PLAN TO REDUCE THE POWERS OF IGWE NNEWI
—————A RESPONSE BY GODSON O. MONEKE – Group Administrator Ogbako-Oha Nnewi .
We woke up on Sunday this week to read a publication by Anaedoonline.com with the above caption.
The publication also alleged that Ogbako-Oha Nnewi was being sponsored by a popular Nnewi politician to reduce the powers of Igwe Nnewi.
There are over two hundred and forty (240) participants in the Agbako-Oha Nnewi WhatsApp group comprising people of different persuasions in life.
The leadership of the group is made up of professionals who can hold their own anywhere in the world.
How would you feel if it is said that Anaedoonline.com is being sponsored by a popular businessman to promote social injustice, anarchy and desecrate the other three communities in Nnewi for a mess of porridge.
As journalists, Anaedoonline.com is expected to uphold professional ethics and eschew yellow journalism at all times.
What has the Palace Secretary of Obi Nnewi-Ichi got to do with a headline that spoke to Igwe Nnewi if no mischief was intended?
Doesn’t Igwe Nnewi have his own Palace Secretary?
We have read the rebuttal from the said Palace Secretary of Obi Nnewi-Ichi and are convinced beyond measure that you set him up for embarrassment.
If what you did was not a classical case of yellow journalism, please give us a better example.
People believe that because they are cheap and have no scruples, everybody is like that.
That is a serious error of judgement.
The vision, mission, core values and raison detre of Ogbako-Oha Nnewi are published and well known to all and sundry.
We have not deviated from them, not even once.
What you have done is a deliberate error of malapropism symptomatic of sensationalism and yellow journalism. Pitiful!
You raise ALARMS to draw attention to CLANDESTINE ACTIVITIES not on something that is TRANSPARENT AND OPEN to all.
This country is a democracy and operates a federal constitution with three tiers of government namely, the federal, the state and local governments.
The executive powers are exercised by the President, the Governor and the local government Chairman.
This being the case, we would assume that the popular politician you meant is the local government Chairman who incidentally is the biological son of Igwe Nnewi.
Are you insinuating that the ‘SON’ has become an ‘ABSALOM’ who is plotting against his father.
Ogbako-Oha Nnewi exists to promote social justice, truth, leadership, development, transparency and integrity in Nnewi.
If we deviate from these precepts please call us to order.
We are running a democracy and not a theocracy or any other form of government and that being the case the Igwe Nnewi has no executive powers that anybody would desire to reduce.
We are not beholden to any interest or group and not looking for something to eat.
It is therefore an insult for Anaedoonline.com to cast such a spurious and reckless aspersion on a group of eminent professionals without cause.
You do not use your lowly standards to judge others.
We don’t take sides with people here, we take sides with social justice, equity, peace and righteousness because a nation can only be exalted by righteousness.
We respect people but we don’t hero worship them.
What we preach at Ogbako-Oha Nnewi is that all the four communities led by their respective Obis should operate by the Rules of Engagement as enunciated in the letter of 1956, AgbaN’ano Nnewi covenant and the reports of the various eminent committees set up to resolve the Nnewi crisis.
In other words, every Obi should OPERATE ON HIS LANE AND ESCHEW ILLEGAL POWER GRABS.
The word COMMUNITY is usually used in CONTEXTS and people should not obfuscate facts in order to appear intelligent.
Nnewi is made up of four autonomous communities or towns and that is the context in which we are talking.
We are not talking of the twenty one plus four ISI-OBIS broken down among the four quarters thus Otolo (9), Uruagu (7), Umudim (5) and Nnew-Ichi (4).
What we have in Nnewi is 21 ISI-OBIS PLUS 4.
The Head ISI-OBI in each of the four communities who is the Obi of the community/town has additional one share.
But we are talking about the four communities ( Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewi-Ichi) that jointly signed the letter of 1956 and were parties to the AgbaN’ano covenant, participated in the Peace, Constitution and other Committees.
What we promote is independent of the matter in Supreme Court between the Anambra State Government and some communities in the state.
Our interest is in Nnewi and nothing more.
When the twenty one ISI-OBIS (umunna) desire autonomies for their respective UMUNNAS they will advance their arguments.
Kindly note that he who sows the wind will reap the whirlwind.
What we are saying is that the autonomous status of the three other towns in today’s Nnewi which had been so since ages be restored and recognized by government.
We believe that their recognition will help in the maximization of the welfare of the Nnewi people and accelerate economic and physical development in Nnewi.
The present scenario presents us with a circumstance where one of the four communities alone is appropriating all the surpluses values meant for the four communities by failing to keep to the terms and conditions of the 1956 letter and the AgbaN’ano covenant.
It is a heartless and greedy scenario.
The formation of Ogbako-Oha Nnewi was not politically motivated, if you think otherwise, prove it and show the world your evidence.
You don’t make unsubstantiated and salacious allegations and expect it to stick.
It is highly irresponsible of a publication that expect people to take it seriously.
Owning an online publication is not a LICENSE to malign innocent people and groups anyhow.
RESPECT YOURSELF BECAUSE RESPECT IS RECIPROCAL. IF YOU SPARK OFF TROUBLES NEXT TIME, YOU WILL HAVE IT.
You are not the only one who can use a pen.
A word is enough for the wise. The fact that the agitation was not realized the last time does not mean it will not materialize this time.
Pride goes before a fall. WE DON’T WORSHIP PEOPLE AT OGBAKO-OHA NNEWI, WE ONLY WORSHIP GOD.
- By the grace of God, you are not God.
