I wish to condemn in a strongest term the gruesome murder of a 7 years old boy in the Badagry area of Lagos state yesterday for alleged attempt to steal garri.
While I am not supporting or condoning stealing in any form, resorting to jungle justice by thoroughly beating the minor before setting him on fire with tire round his neck is barbaric, nonsensical, horrendous, inhuman and very lugubrious.
It is ironical and even paradoxical that same society that people worship, adulate, adored and glorified bigger thieves, conversely, same country people will be so merciless to petty thieves, what a puzzle?
I call on the security agents to swing into action by arresting the perpetrators of this dastard act and ensure they face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrence to others.
Government must address the suffering and excruciating pain in the land to prevent the citizens from taking to crime in order to survive.
Furthermore, I urge National Orientation Agency (NOA), civil societies, Churches, Mosques and the media to intensify enlightenment campaign on the sanctity and sacredness of human life and need for Nigerians not to take the law into their hands.
For those of you spreading the video and photos of the unfortunate act on the blogosphere l urge you to exercise restraints and stop offending the sensibilities of others.
Finally, this attitude of snapping, recording and downloading accident and orgy scenes on phones and desperately posting same on the social media is despicable and condemnable.
When you arrived accident scenes what should be paramount in your mind first is rescue and application of “first aid” on/to the victims in order to save lives unlike those wicked fellows who watch helplessly the gruesome murder of the boy, too bad.
A word is enough for the wise!
God bless Nigeria!
