Outrage as Obiano deducts money from workers’ salaries to recapitalize Microfinance bank
There is massive outcries in Anambra State among civil servants as the state governor, Mr. William Maduabuchukwu Obiano has directed that monies be deducted from the salaries of workers to recapitalize the state owned Ndiolu Microfinance bank.
The directive for the deduction was contained in a letter issued by the Office of the Head of Service to the Office of the Accountant General in the State’s Ministry of Finance in Awka, the state capital.
The letter was signed by the Head of Service, Barr. Harry Udu.
See attached a copy of the letter below:
Consequently, some civil servants in the state, who spoke to ElombahNews on condition of anonymity, threatened that there will be massive showdown if Governor Obiano goes ahead with the planned deduction.
One of the civil servants said that it is absurd that a governor who enjoyed the most massive goodwill from workers ever in Nigeria will turn around and bite the the hand that fed him at the twilight of his administration.
He said: “Governor Obiano is an ungrateful devil.
“While we workers struggle to put food on the table owing to the high rate of inflation in the country, he is planning to make unnecessary deductions from our salaries.
“Is it because he is rounding off his administration as governor? Because he feels he does not need our votes anymore?
“We will shut the state down if he goes with the planned deduction. We have contacted NLC over the plans.”
Another concerned citizen, in an anonymous memo to ElombahNews, said:
“Anambra State Head of Service, Barr. Harry Udo lamented that the state of finance of Anambra state is alarming, that Anambra is finished under Obiano.
“The HoS told how, when they visited Obiano for the recapitalization of Ndiolu Micro Finance bank, he told them that Anambra is broke and cannot afford such investment.
“When Obiano was told the importance of the bank to workers, he directed the Head of Service to deduct money from salary of civil servants for three months in order to realize the required money.
“Anambra civil servants are considering indefinite strike to stop what they consider as nonsense.
“What a man!
“After squandering over 75 billion Naira, plunging the state into over 200 billion Naira debt, squandering Paris refund, Obiano could not raise 250 million Naira to recapitalize the bank, rather he is taxing workers.
“It’s unheard of that a man who takes 1.5 billion Naira security vote monthly cannot spare 250 million Naira to recapitalize the bank.
“Shame! he added.”
