PDP Presidential & Vice Candidates Visit Igbo Leaders

Promise to restructure Nigeria and address the marginalisation of Ndigbo As Ohanaeze Ndigbo meet in January to determine Igbo political fate come 2019


The Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], Alhaji Atiku Abubakar  and Mr. Peter Obi, with a large entourage visited some Igbo leaders and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chieftains  in a town hall meeting organised by some friends and Associates of the duo.

The event which held at Nike lake hotel in Enugu  on Wednesday 14th November , 2018 attracted who is who in Igbo land.

In his opening remark the  Chairman of the day Prof Ben Nwabueze noted that Ndigbo have been relegated to the background politically and economically in Nigeria and must therefore struggle to liberate themselves from that situation.

He urged Alhaji Abubakar to address the lamentations of Ndigbo especially on the issue of restructuring of Nigeria.

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Barr Nnia Nwodo who later stood for the Chairman  commended Atiku Abubakar for his visit and urged him to address the multifarious challenges facing Ndigbo in Nigeria.

He noted that Ohanaeze Ndigbo stakeholders and Imeobi would meet early in January, 2019 to chart a political course and direction for Ndigbo then.

He noted however that the group would interface and interact with all Presidential candidates that deem it fit to call on the apex Igbo body.

He noted that Ndigbo were at the forefront of Nigeria’s independence but have been relegated to the background over the years.

Other Igbo leaders present made comments and agreed that Ndigbo must not be joked with by anybody this time around as they would only identify with those ready to address their marginalisation in Nigeria.

In his reaction, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic promised to restructure Nigeria and address the litany of woes of Ndigbo. He noted that Nigeria is down because Igbos are down and he would change the narrative if elected in 2019.

He later went into a closed door meeting with some selected Igbo leaders at the event.

Among the Igbo leaders who attended the town hall meeting included Prof Ben Nwabueze, Prof JOe Irukwu, Barr Nnia Nwodo, Prof Uma Eleazu, Prof ABC Nwosu, Dr Joe Nwaorgu, Prof Anya O Anya, Engr Emma Iwuanyanwu, Obi of Onitsha Alfred AChebe, Bishop Anikwenwa, Chief Tony Okeke, Bar Oyibo Chukwu, Senator Ike Nwachukwu, Gen Ihejirika, Gen Umahi, Admiral Allison Madueke, Prof Uche Azikiwe, Senator T A Orji, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Commodore James Aneke, Prof Okere, Prof Uzodima Nwala, Prof Elochukwu Amuchiazi, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu, , Emeka Ihedioha,several youth and women leaders of Igbo land and Ohanaeze Chieftains like Chuks Ibegbu, spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo world wide, Chief Alex Ogbonna, Enugu state chairman, Chief Tony Ogene, Anambra state chairman, Dr Ezechi Chukwu Imo state chairman, Chief Eric Ebeh, National Deputy TReasurer and a host of other Chieftains of the apex Igbo body.
