The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned the 2019 presidential election ticket to the Northern region of the country in an effort to redeem the party’s image which seemed to be battered during the 2015 general elections.
The disclosure was made by the PDP acting National Chairman, Uche Secondus while receiving the post-2015 election report from the committee headed by the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu Wednesday in Abuja.

Speaking on the report, Secondus said National Working Committee (NWC) is aligning itself with the committee’s recommendations to approve the zoning of presidential ticket to the North as part of efforts to redeem the fortunes of the opposition party.
According to Mr. Secondus, the submission of the report marked a turning point in the party’s struggle and that the leadership of the party will go through the report with a view to drawing up roadmap for the transformation of the party.
Secondus said for the party to move forward, it is important that all interest groups in the party should join hands to support the effort of the leadership to restore the lost glory of the party in the coming days.
He said the NWC is promising members of the party never to let them down, and that the leadership will follow due process to present it before the Board of Trustee (BoT) after which it will go to the party’s NEC for final consideration.
He said the NWC had agreed that in order to move the party forward, it would henceforth insist on the adherence to the provisions of the party’s constitution.
Secondus also stated that the NWC has agreed that the next presidential candidate shall come from the North, adding that there is concerted effort to ensure that the party is taken back to its roots.
The acting national chairman said comparatively, the PDP senators in the eighth Senate are performing better and are in absolute control of proceedings in the National Assembly, adding that such record shows that PDP is the most organised party in the country, while others are just learning to cope.
Regarding the fight against corruption, Secondus charged the president to also go after some All Progressives Congress (APC) top leaders and former governors who have been indicted of corruptions especially the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi.
