Police release oil worker wrongly arrested, paraded as unknown gunmen terrorizing S’East
Imo State Police Command has released a father of one, Casmir Ibegbulem, 40 years old, who was wrongly arrested and paraded as one of the unknown gunmen terrorizing the Southeast and some parts of South-South region
Elombahnews last week had reported that Ibegbulem, staffer of an oil company on Bonny Island in Bayelsa State and a native of Ogwa Community in Mbaitoli, Imo State was among the people wrongly paraded by the Nigerian police force after unknown gunmen attacked Imo State.
He had returned for the burial of his in-law, which took place on May 28, but was arrested in Owerri when he came to pick up some personal items needed for the burial.
Police patrol personnel had pounced on him at gunpoint and arrested him.
According to Sahara Reoorters, a human rights activist, Gwanshu Harrison, confirmed that the state command had released Ibegbulem after the outcry by the media and pressure from human rights activists.
“Ibegbulem, who was arrested by Imo State Police Command as one of the #UGM (Unknown Gunmen), has been released. He was transferred to Force Headquarters, Abuja two days after our online protest. Currently, I don’t know the whereabouts of others in this picture. Thanks to @PoliceNG_CRU,” he tweeted.
