President Muhammadu Buhari and the Change Mandate

92

The emergence of Mr. Buhari as the Nigerian President is our insistence on change and collective struggle. And this must be constant in Buhari mind and his team. And also be part of their commitment and character.

It was a great pleasure for Buhari to be sworn in as Nigerian President. On that day, May 29th 2015 he stood before Nigerians and the world with gratitude to God not necessarily as a man of success but a man of history.

He contested the position severally before he eventually won the 2015 election. The first time we saw perseverance translate into reality in our polity.

History has been kind to Buhari, Nigerians demonstrated determination, confidence, love, trust and voted him. For many Nigerians, it was a good stand point for the nation to make progress.

However, the assumption of power by Mr. Buhari is not only to dine and wine but to bear witness to the enduring strength and collective struggle of Nigerians which he swore an oath to render to Nigerians and the state.

In voting him, Nigerians re-affirm their commitment to have a better country.

Buhari must remember at all time, what binds him and the citizens is not the pride in being the President, but his allegiance to the idea articulated in the vision of our founding fathers and the Nigerian constitution.

In voting Buhari, we renewed our vision and made the commitment to live the vision.

In our journey as a nation, we have been tested by numerous challenges, through it all, we have never relinquished our focus and commitment, nor have we succumbed to forces whose aim is to pull us down.

Our success to this time proved our resilience. Thus, Buhari must prove us right by not failing in the mandate we gave to him in our trust and confidence.

Buhari can make Nigeria great if he so wishes. Our possibilities are limitless, for we have all it takes to break boundaries; we have endless capacity for a risk and a gift for invention.

We believe that our prosperity rests upon the shoulders of Buhari and his team.

The emergence of Mr. Buhari as the Nigerian President is our insistence on change and collective struggle. And this must be constant in Buhari mind and his team. And also be part of their commitment and character.

Now, more than ever, we must work collectively as one nation one people.  Together, we have determined to bring change and the change will be made possible.

Buhari must understand the task ahead of us, thus, he must harness new ideas, create space for citizens participation, civil society to make Nigerian state better.

Buhari obligations are not just to himself, but to all posterity of the Nigerian Nation.

He must thus, respond to the threats and challenges confronting our nation knowing that the failure to do so would betray our collective struggle.

Buhari must know, his journey is not complete until he brings the change he promised and we all believed.

With the awareness that this struggle will not end after Buhari four or eight year’s tenure as the case may be, we must continuously choose visionary leaders that will sustain any achievements that might be made by Buhari

Thus, the last administrations had made their mark both in positive and negative outcome, as APC takes over the mantle of leadership for the next four years it must put Nigeria better than it met it.

The oath Buhari has sworn before us was an oath to God, to Nigerians and the nation. He must faithfully execute the promises he made during the electioneering.

However, APC must remember, Buhari oath is not so different from the commitment the party must collectively make to achieve its fundamental objectives.

Mr. Buhari, the Nigerian President and his party APC must engage in a collective effort and common purpose, with passion and dedication to make Nigeria a leading example in Africa.
