The executive Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has urged the federal government of Nigeria to stop playing to the ostrich and face the present economic reality tearing the nation apart.
Obaseki was responding to the statement credited to the Minister of Finance, Mrs Ahmed Zainab who refuted the assertion that the federal government printed over N60 billion to augment the shortfall in the federally allocated March revenue. The Minister in her rebuttal said Obaseki’s statement is not “a fact.”
Recall that Obaseki had said that the federal government of Nigeria printed over N60 billion which was used to meet up with its fiscal responsibility in March.
However, Obaseki in a statement said his administration will not like to join issues with the Ministry of Finance but he believes it is their duty to offer useful advice for the benefit of the country.
He further said that rather than play the ostrich, the government should to take urgent steps to end the current monetary rascality in order to prevent the current economic situation before it gets chronic
The statement read in part: “Our advice is that we stop playing the Ostrich
“While we do not want to join issues with the Federal Ministry of Finance, we believe it is our duty to offer useful advice for the benefit of our country.
“The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed should rally Nigerians to stem the obvious fiscal slide facing our country.
“Rather than play the Ostrich, we urge the government to take urgent steps to end the current monetary rascality, so as to prevent the prevailing economic challenge from degenerating further.
“We believe it is imperative to approach the Nigerian project with all sense of responsibility and commitment and not play to the gallery because ultimately, time shall be the judge of us all.”
