Pro-Lawan Senators on Tuesday y faulted the composition Senate standing Committees by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki [above] is against the Senate standing orders 2015 as amended.
It could be recalled that last week Wednesday Saraki announced composition of 65 Senate standing Committees against the existing 57 standing committees stipulated in Senate rule book.
Revealing the position of the group on plenary session on Tuesday, Senator Kabiru Marafa disclosed that Saraki violated the country’s constitution and the Standing orders of the Senate in the constitution of the 65 committees.
Marafa who anchored his observations with quotations from the 1999 constitution and the Senate Standing orders sought for the review of the committees.
According to him, increase in the number of the Senate standing Committees from 57 to 65 is against the Senate standing orders. The issue of seniority in the composition of Committees chairmanship is not properly addressed.
He added that there is justice, equity and fairness in the composition of standing committees.
Saraki responding to the objection raised by Marafa during the session said noted.
However, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Abdullahi Sabi said due process was followed in the composition of standing Committees.
He added on resumption to plenary approved the composition of standing Committees which was announced last week Wednesday.
