Purported Lockdown Extension Breach By SGF: APC Fires Back At PDP
Says SGF Breached No Law
The APC Mandate Defenders has fired back at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the statement lamenting the assumption of Presidential powers by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha.
Mr. Mustapha had announced an extension of lockdown and curfew in the country in relation to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reacting, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan pointed out that nowhere in our laws are the powers to broadcast Presidential executive orders to declare curfew and restriction of movements vested in the Office of the SGF.
He noted that the action of the SGF has brought serious confusion in the polity regarding the legality or otherwise of the directives contained in the SGF’s announcement.
“Such powers are vested in the person and office of Mr. President and not exercisable by proxy, directly or indirectly; which makes the action of the SGF a recipe for serious constitutional crisis in our country,” Ologbondiyan said.

Responding in a press release, signed by National Publicity Secretary of APC Mandate Defenders, Mr. Ifeanyi Emeka faulted the statement attributed to the opposition PDP against the Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce for the Control of Covid-19 Pandemic.
The group said that contrary to PDP’s wrong assertion, the PTF Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation said nothing new outside what President Muhammadu Buhari had stated in his April 27th nationwide broadcast announcing phase by phase and gradual easing of the restrictions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun States as well as imposing new lockdown in Kano State.
In the statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, Mr. Emeka said that what the PTF Chairman did was to introduce the second phase of what Mr. President had earlier stated in his address to the nation.
He, therefore, warned the PDP to stop raising unnecessary tension in the polity.
He said: “By dwelling on triviality, the PDP has shown to the world that it does not know how to play pro-active opposition politics to checkmate the party in power but has sorrowfully reduced itself to a reactionary political party.
”We are waiting to see the day the PDP would react when President Buhari refuse to take his breakfast in the morning.”
The group further urged Nigerians to ignore the wrong assertion made against the SGF even as it invited the PDP for tutorial on how to play pro-active opposition politics for the overall development of Nigeria.
