Reps suspend Abdulmumin Jibrin for 6 months

Members of the House of Representatives have suspended the garrulous former Chairman of Appropriation Committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin for six months.

Members of the House of Representatives have suspended the garrulous former Chairman of Appropriation Committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin for six months.

The suspension took place on Wednesday following his refusal to appear before the Ethics Committee.

The Committee was set up by Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara to probe his allegations of budget padding, amongst other things.

He was also banned from holding position of authority for the remaining part of the 8th assembly.

Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin is also to write official apology before his re-admission to the house

His suspension is as a result of allegation of budget padding against the Speaker Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara and some principal officers

Irrespective of this development, however, the anti-graft and security agencies have been enjoined to ensure that the allegations made by the embattled Hon. Jibrin are investigated fully.

Citing his reasons for non-appearance before the House committee on Tuesday, Jibrin said it is an aberration and a miscarriage of justice for anyone to be a judge in his/her own case.

He sought the services of independent bodies to carry out the investigation and pledged to answer fully for any wrongdoing in his own part.

He said: “The grand plan is to dilute the ongoing external investigation by the police and EFCC and use the Ethics Committee for a soft landing.

“I have said repeatedly, I stand by my allegations and will continue this struggle to expose the 2016 budget fraud and corruption in the house even if I am alone,’’ he said

“I completely disagree with this approach because it will mean that the speaker is superintending over his investigation and that clearly makes him a judge in his own case.

“The allegations I raised are too grievous to be reduced to such process open to manipulation and teleguiding.

“I will, therefore, continue to cooperate with the anti-graft agencies which are already doing investigation the matter and will also proceed to build a massive coalition with Civil Society Organisations and other well-meaning Nigerians.

“This is to ensure that this matter is not swept under the carpet.

“Since I can substantiate the allegations I raised with cogency, I will take up the opportunity provided by the Ethics Committee to state my case under the condition that the hearing will be public.

“And will allow the Press, CSOs, NGOs, NLC, ASUU, NANS, NBA and the general public to witness the entire proceedings.
