Rising insecurity in S/East: De-proscribe IPOB now, Nzeribe tells Buhari
Says governors created a political vacuum for Nnamdi Kanu to operate on
A frontline aspirant in the Anambra State governorship election coming up on November 6, 2021, Hon. Chuma Nzeribe has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, de-proscribe the Biafra agitators under the auspices of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Hon. Nzeribe, who is contesting the election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the call during an exclusive interview with Elombah Television on Sunday where he featured as the special guest.
Speaking on the topic “Rising Insecurity in the South East, an existential threat to Ndigbo“, Nzeribe called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call off the proscription and get down to negotiation table with IPOB and other aggrieved parties in Nigeria.
He said: “The Nigeria Government should as a matter of urgency de-proscribe IPOB and call for a round table meeting to discuss the way forward.
“Governors are at loss what to do because the Federal Government has chased IPOB to go underground”.
Speaking on why IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu wields more influence over the people than the elected governors, he said:
“People are listening to Nnamdi Kanu because the governors vacated the space. Nature abhors a vaccum.
“The people needed solution to the problem of insecurity and nobody was listening to them.
“The people waited for development, nobody was giving them development. A lot of youths are jobless.
“If Nnamdi Kanu tells them that in the future country of Biafra they will have jobs, they will have developments, everybody will start following him.
“That is why I said the governors vacated the political space for Kanu to operate.”
