Rivers Govt threatens to deal with heads of schools that charges fees of any kind from pupils
The Rivers State government led by barrister Nyesom Wike has threatened to deal with principals and heads of schools that charges any kind of fees from students and pupils.
In a statement by the commissioner of Education, Prof Kaniye Ebeku, parents and guardians were urged to resist payment of any kind of charges and promptly report such occurrence to the Honourable Commissioner for Education.
He said, “As schools reopen for the new academic year 2020/2021 session, Principals and Heads of Schools are hereby reminded that the State Governor, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, has since banned the collection of charges and fees of any kind and for any purpose from students and pupils. Any Principal, Head Teacher or others caught violating the ban will be summarily dealt with in accordance with the extant laws and rules.
