Sack Pantami now! – Adesanya-Davies urges President Muhammadu Buhari – (1)

  • On the “Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy”

  • Re: Why Pantami must resign or be sacked

Ex- female presidential candidate, Princess Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies has lent her voice to that of many Nigerians calling on President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government over the ongoing frantic and burning debate, on the sensitive position of “Minister for Communications and Digital Economy, and the need for President Muhammadu Buhari to sack his appointed Pantami or he resigns.

Princess Adesanya-Davies buttresses the call on President Buhari government to sack Pantami as a matter of urgency. She said, she reached this purported conclusion after painstakingly reading through certain information and documents as regards the position of Pantami concerning his support for extremist Islamist sects and terrorism in Nigeria, in the past.

It was reported that, “A brewing storm over sensitive allegations unveiling Isa Pantami, the Minister for Communications and Digital Economy, as a fervent supporter of extremist Islamist sects, who preached their violent cause should not be overlooked. The minister is under fire for vociferously espousing the violent Jihadist narrative of al-Qaeda and the Taliban before he was appointed minister by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

These allegations are far too weighty and there is copious evidence that Pantami once held on to extremist ideology and expressed it openly. Therefore, the honourable step is for him to resign. Otherwise, Buhari should sack him for unfettered investigations to be undertaken.

The case against Pantami, which has gone viral on social media, is dangerously earth-shaking. Initially, the minister, who until his appointment in 2019 was the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, denied the obvious. But when he was confronted with his preaching in the 2000s on social media, he backtracked and claimed “immaturity.”

Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies
Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies (Ph.D)

Essentially, Pantami’s past is catching up with him. Although he claims that he has “repented” of his Salafist ideology, his violent preaching of those days is damagingly chilling. Among other things, he said, “Oh God, give victory to the Taliban and to al-Qaeda,” and, “This jihad is an obligation for every single believer, especially in Nigeria.”

In another, he reportedly endorsed the killing of “unbelievers.” And what is the difference between his statements and that of Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, the defunct Islamic State’s chief spokesman, who had called on Muslims in Western countries such as France and Canada to find an infidel and “smash his head with a rock,” poison him, run him over with a car, or “destroy his crops?” This is a cataclysmic ideology, which has upturned the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan; instigated the 9/11 terror attacks and charging at the very soul of Nigeria. So many more extremist views have been attributed to Pantami.

In his defence, Pantami argues that he has repented; that he erred as an innocent youth. This is a hollow excuse. He should not have aspired to the position of a minister, then. When, where and how did he renounce violent jihad? What of the fresh allegations on the social media that he approved an Islamic TV station to be broadcasting official programmes of the Ministry of Communications? Was this after his repentance? When did Pantami sever his ties to his jihadist past?

According to Wikipedia, the minister, whom Buhari entrusts with the biometric data of Nigerians, trained under extremist Islamist scholars in Saudi Arabia, including Muhammad Ibn Uthaymin, whose extremist views include opposition to women driving in that country.

Whether Pantami admits it or not, his preaching then must have enticed some innocents into joining the Salafist crusade to cause mayhem and establish its global caliphate through bloodshed. The Boko Haram jihadists whom he now claims to have opposed, have tormented Nigeria, especially the North-East of the country, since 2009 with their vicious ideology. They have conquered territories, murdered people in thousands, kidnapped schoolgirls in Chibok and Dapchi, blown up the UN HQs in Abuja, attacked military formations and currently threaten the country’s corporate existence.

Beyond that, Pantami’s elevation to high public office exposes the ridiculous state Nigeria finds itself. All around, mediocrity, incompetence and questionable compromises are evident in the current miasma. First, Buhari was wrong to have appointed Pantami as a minister. It means the President’s yardsticks for such appointments are too pedestrian, perhaps based on extraneous ties apart from competence.

Second, the Senate, which screens ministerial nominees, is an abject, hollow chamber. In this case, the Ahmed Lawan-led Senate failed woefully. There was no rigour. It is shameful that nominees of questionable characters, some of whom harbour extremist views, did not have an NYSC certificate or forged documents are approved without question. The nauseating tradition of “take a bow” defeats the purpose of the screening, which is meant to sift out the chaff from the wheat. But the Senate has turned screening to a charade, sheer commercial and party affair, abnegating rigour.

This brings us to the State Security Service. What does it do when the executive forwards the names of nominees to it? As a party to the screening of nominees, there is no confidence about its reports to the parliament. The press, the watchdog, should be alert and henceforth, objectively unearth aspiring public office holders for the public to assess.

The Nigerian Senate should adopt a rigorous process in screening nominees. It is not compulsory that all the nominations from the executive should sail through; the job of the parliament is to deny incompetent and dangerous people the chance to gain top public office where they can do irreparable damage. In 2012, Goodluck Jonathan, the President, claimed that sympathisers of Boko Haram had infiltrated his government.

“Some of them are in the executive arm of government, some of them are in the parliamentary/legislative arm of government, while some of them are even in the judiciary…Some are also in the armed forces, the police and other security agencies,” he had said. The Senate should wake up and replace indolence with diligence. Media scrutiny of prospective public officials should be stepped up.

The UK Institute of Government says, “individual ministerial accountability ultimately means an expectation that they should resign if something has gone seriously wrong. And truly, many things have gone awfully wrong with Pantami’s jihadist pantomime. His credibility as a minister has run out. He should bow out or be kicked out.”

As Pantami recently claims, “I’m not that person anymore”– But ? But ? But ? Adesanya-Davies profusely quotes she also read that:

“Most blatantly of all, Pantami’s declaration that he no longer agrees with his jihadi iteration from 2006 is demonstrably false, and this can be easily proven. Here is just one example. On March 22, 2021, Pantami’s Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy hosted a virtual flag-off ceremony for a capacity development programme empowering 600 people with VSAT Installation Skills.

“Pantami himself was in attendance and he spoke at the event. This would all seem very run-of-the-mill and prosaic until you click on the YouTube link in the tweet. Was it livestreamed by the FMCoDE’s YouTube channel? No. Was it livestreamed by the NTA YouTube channel? No. Channels TV? No. TVC? No. AIT? No.

“No major broadcaster was engaged to livestream this event hosted by Pantami’s Ministry. Instead, a little-known Islamic TV channel called Al-Afrikiy was contracted to relay an event organised by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is important to point out that Al-Afrikiy is not merely an Islamic-influenced, or Islamic-leaning TV station which also covers other things. Al-Afrikiy is an Islam-only TV channel.

“It broadcasts strictly religious content. Getting this channel to host an FMCoDE event would be the equivalent of getting TB Joshua’s Emmanuel TV to host an official Federal Government event. An islam-only tv channel somehow got to host pantami’s fmcode event.

“It gets worse. Al-Afrikiy is not just an Islam-only TV channel. Its social media handles also get involved in religious controversies, as proven by this post from its Facebook page. This is the sort of outfit hired to broadcast FG events now apparently

“A look through Al-Afrikiy’s YouTube uploads shows that this channel uploads exclusively religious content, with only 2 exceptions. The 2 of them have something in common which readers will immediately spot. Here too… But wait. It gets even worse.

“I looked up the website link on Al-Afrikiy’s Facebook page. I wanted to get a sense for what kind of no-name religion-only channel somehow gets the inside track on broadcasting events by a federal ministry – a contract that I know for a fact actual TV broadcasters would bite off Pantami’s hand for. This was what I saw:

“Pantami’s “Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy” has its events relayed by an unknown Islamic TV station without a functioning website.

In case you’re still thinking “No way, there has to be an explanation. Pantami cannot be so openly parochial as to give federal broadcasting gigs to an Islamic version of Emmanuel TV, here is what Al-Afrikiy itself has to say about the kind of programming it does.”

Adesanya-Davies again cited the ex-DSS director, Amachree on the matter, “He said the DSS has information on all individuals of interest, adding that the minister’s past extremist views were communicated to the Federal Government and the legislature. Amachree said: “There is no information that escapes the DSS, we have all of it, all.

He added, “He (Pantami) has just submitted his name into US database. The cataloguing of people is not automatic, it comes in drips and drops.”

“Now, people are talking about him and that has come to the attention of the United States Embassy in Nigeria already. Now, they will do a deeper dive into his background.”…“They will catalogue him and now they will start watching him and if it comes to a very critical level, they will place him on a no-fly zone.”

Adesanya-Davies concludes exclaiming, “IT’S GETTING BADDER AND BADDER, AND THE WORSE AND WORST ARE YET TO COME, if care is not taken, because the position of “Minister for Communications and Digital Economy” is too sensitive to be held by a jihadist oriented and terrorism-compliant prone individual in Nigeria in times like this, in the name of personal favouritism, political interest, religious variable or federal character balancing. This is a very sensitive position to the nation and posterity will unfailingly judge President Muhammadu Buhari, if he insists, and he Malami also imposes himself.”.

As Chief Femi Fani-kayode rightly said, “The sooner he is dropped from President Buhari’s cabinet like a hot potatoes and brought to justice the better. The world is watching.” (FFK) And “Both the Muslims and Christians of Nigeria must all be protected and treated fairly and equally under the law and neither must be killed or persecuted for their faith. There is no room for fundamentalism on either side”- @realFFK.

“It’s unwise to level Northern Nigeria or sell the entire Nigeria at large! “Oh my! Nigeria would be fast disappearing on the world map as one country as things are going very soon o!” – Bishop Prof. Adesanya-Davies cries.

Sack Pantami now! – Adesanya-Davies urges President Muhammadu Buhari – (2)

  • On the “Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy”

  • On Alhaji General Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Sheik Isa Patami, as Minister for Communications and Digital Economy – a strategic ministry

Sheikh Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami is a Jumu’ah Chief Imam who has been leading the Jumu’ah prayer for over 20 years in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

In a second paper, Princess Adesanya-Davies buttresses the call on President Buhari government to sack Pantami as a matter of urgency. She said, she reached these purported conclusions after researching and painstakingly reading through certain information and documents as regards the position of Pantami concerning his support for extremist Islamist sects and terrorism in Nigeria, in the past.

She exemplifies, as said, “One unmistakable way to know who a person really is, is by studying his deeds and the type of friends he keeps. Alhaji General Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Sheik Isa Patami, as Minister for Communications and Digital Economy – a strategic ministry -, clearly speaks volumes.

“Read this forwarded message about Sheik Isa Aliyu Pantami: My New Living Translation of the Bible asks this leading question: “Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?” I know that God will, one day, deliver this country from Buhari and his gang.” Pa. Prof. Olusola Ajolore.

Now the forwarded message: “HOW SHEIK PANTAMI’S FATWA LED TO MURDER OF 400L STUDENT, ACHI SUNDAY. “For former students and staff of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, the recent news about Sheik Pantami’s terrorist activity is not new to them, because as Chief Imam of the University Mosque he was directly involved in the instigation and coordination of various attacks on non Muslim students and staff of the University.”

“In 2004 when a group of Christian students from the ECWA Student Ministries (ESM) embarked on evangelism, Patami declared that one of the tracks distributed was blasphemous against the Holy Prophet, causing the Muslim students to go on rampage attacking other students and destroying property, later that evening he issued a FATWA on the five students who went out to preach, instructing that it was not enough to destroy property and injure people, stressing that blood must be spilled whenever there’s blasphemy against the Prophet therefore, insisting that a life must be taken.

Later that fateful evening a group of Muslim students acting under Sheik Pantami’s instruction barged into the hostel, dragged the leader of ESM, Mr. Sunday Achi from his room, took him to a remote location within the school premises and stoned him to death. The discovery of his corpse the next morning led to a series of religious crisis that forced the school to shut down.

On another occasion he also instigated Muslim students to protest the appointment of Dr Andy Iheme as Registrar of ATBU, according to him Dr. Iheme was not only a Christian but he was also a Pastor in a local church in Bauchi and they would never allow a Pastor be registrar in the school. Why else will students protest the appointment of a registrar by university authorities?

Similarly he engineered crisis to abort the SUG elections on campus when it was clear that a Christian student Mr Mone Ayerni was going to emerge victorious against his Muslim opponent, he told the Muslim students that it was against the ethos of Islam for any Christian to Lead Muslims in whatever capacity, this led to a series of religious crisis also leading to closure of the school.

Recently he has been identified as the spiritual adviser to Kaduna state governor Mallam Nasir El Rufai and to the governor of his home state, Gombe. He encouraged El Rufai to adopt a Muslim Deputy in the 2019 elections insisting that a Muslim lady as deputy is more acceptable to Islam than a male Christian, even though Islam frowns at female leadership.

The recent crisis in Gombe can also be traced directly to his counsel to the current governor of Gombe state, who appointed a Muslim traditional ruler (Mai Tangle) over the Christian dominated LGA of Billiri with over 95% Christian population. Reports also indicate that the Gombe state Governor also intends to adopt the El Rufai option by nominating a Muslim as his deputy in 2023 on the advice of Sheik Pantami.

Sheik Pantami is known for his extremists teachings across University campuses in Northern Nigeria, he preached severally in support of the Boko Haram terrorist while they were burning down churches and killing Christians, he only changed his views against them when they started attacking his fellow Muslims and burning down mosques.

It is our earnest prayers that Justice will be served on this violent Jihadist and no matter how long it takes, he will pay for all the lives lost as a result of his message of evil and hate.” WE PRAY, AMEN, prays nonagenarian Pa. Prof. Olusola Ajolore.

FFK added, “I considered giving Pantami a soft landing a few days ago and opted to forgive him for his offensive, dangerous and repugnant vituperations only because he had publicly expressed his regrets, but this is no longer the case because his expression of remorse was clearly not genuine or heart-felt… Again, “For him to publicly express the fact that he is “happy” when those he described as “unbelievers” are murdered reflects his homicidal, sociopathic and psychotic mind-set and is not only indefensible but also unforgivable.”

“Simply put the Minister is a hater of Christians and non-Muslims. He is a religious bigot, an ethnic supremacist, an unrepentant jihadist, a lover of bloodshed, carnage and terror and a psychopathic and clearly insane individual who may well have been responsible for the slaughter of many innocent Christians over the years as a consequence of his inflammatory rhetoric and reckless actions. Not only is the cold-blooded beast called Pantami not fit to be a Minister of the Federal Republic but he is also not fit to walk our streets freely because he presents a grave danger to our people and our society.

And there is so much more that he has said and done, including his alleged participation in a frightful event in Bauchi state a few years ago which allegedly resulted in the tragic death of a young Christian student and which I will write about at a later stage.

Adesanya-Davies laments, subbing, “IT’S GETTING BADDER AND BADDER, AND THE WORSE AND WORST ARE YET TO COME, if care is not taken, because the position of “Minister for Communications and Digital Economy” is too sensitive to be held by a jihadist oriented and terrorism-compliant prone individual in Nigeria in times like this, in the name of personal favouritism, political interest, religious variable or federal character balancing. This is a very sensitive position to the nation and posterity will unfailingly judge President Muhammadu Buhari, if he insists, and he Malami also imposes himself.”

Thus, “It’s unwise to level Northern Nigeria or sell the entire Nigeria at large! “Oh my! Nigeria would be fast disappearing on the world map as one country as things are going very soon o!” – Bishop Prof. Adesanya-Davies cries.
