Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has felicitated with the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) on this year’s celebration of International Day of the Midwife.
Commemorating this years inaugural international Midwifery Conference in Abuja, Saraki appreciate the roles of Midwives in saving lives.
Dr. Saraki expressed his demeanour on his Facebook page viz:
Today I congratulate the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the WellBeing Foundation Africa on this year’s celebration of International Day of the Midwife.
As a medical doctor by profession, I personally appreciate the contributions of Midwives in saving lives.
Over the years, Midwives have helped to improve the maternal health of the Nigerian woman.
According to available data, the risk of a woman dying as a result of pregnancy or childbirth in Nigeria is still high compared to developed Nations.
As we declare the inaugural international Midwifery Conference in Abuja open, the 8th Assembly under my watch will partner with these organizations and others.
The aim is to provide legislation that will help to strengthen the efforts of Midwives in Nigeria.
This is in order to enable them provide better support for expecting mothers and also to other health practitioners.
Abubakar Bukola Saraki
