Parents, teachers, pupils and indeed, Imolites from all walks of life are at this moment gathered at the Heroes’ Square in Owerri, the Imo State capital in celebration of seven years of uninterrupted free education from Primary to tertiary education level in the State.
The event which was put together by Imo State students with the support of their parents was put together to commemorate seven years of freedom from all forms of payment by parents for their children’s education. This policy adopted by the Owelle Rochas Okorocha Rescue Mission administration has helped millions of Imo children access highly qualitative education at the highest level at no cost.
Seen as an unrealizable campaign promise, seven years ago when Chief Okorocha campaigned for the governorship with a promise to offer free education, the free education has not only succeeded, but Imo children are learning under one of the best educational environments in Africa, with the best set of public school teachers available.
God has blessed Imo State!
