Senate on Wednesday mandated its standing Committee on Judiciary Human Rights and Legal Matters to immediately probe the circumstances surrounding the alleged resumption the Executive Secretary of National Human Rights Commission, {NHRC},  Tony Ojukwu, without Upper Chamber’s confirmation.   Senate decision was sequel to a point of order raised by Senator Dino Melaye who called on the attention of the lawmakers on the resumption of nominee for Executive Secretary  NHRC, Ojukwu without the confirmation of Senate.

Melaye revealed that the nominee resumption to the office without confirmation was orchestrated by  the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubarka Mallami .   He said the resumption of Ojukwu to office is contravention to the Civil Service Rules and the Act establishing the commission.   Melaye who described the action of the AGF  as an affront on the institution of the Senate.    He  pointed out that it is not the first time the AGF would be daring the Senate, calling on Senate to henceforth disqualifies appointees resume without confirmation.

Thereafter,  Senate in its resolution directed its Committee on Justice, Human Rights and Legal Matters chaired by Senator David Umaru to quickly look into the matter with a view to verify the authenticity or otherwise of the allegations against the AGF.
