Senate Passes Bill Recognising June 12 As Democracy Day
The Senate has passed the Public Holiday (Amendment) Act 2019 which recognised June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria as against the current May 29.
President Muhammadu Buhari had, in June 2018, declared that Democracy Day, henceforth, be held on June 12 every year.
The House of Representatives earlier in December 2018 passed the bill and forwarded it to the Senate for concurrence.
President Buhari also posthumously awarded Moshood Kolawole Abiola [MKO], with the highest national honour of the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) after he was assumed the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election.
