The legislative day in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was, on Tuesday, abandoned in honour of the late Member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Abdullahi Mohammed Wamakko.
Wamakko died 4 days after a brief illness in his Abuja residence.
The 50 years old Member represented Kware/Wamakko Constituency of Sokoto State in the House of Representatives.
Senate President Bukola Saraki had taken the official prayer and led the chamber into the day’s proceedings when Senator Ahmed Lawan cited order 43 and informed the Senate on the demise of Hon. Wamakko on Friday, 14th July 2017.
The Senate, thereafter, resolved to observe a minute silence and send delegates to commiserate with the family of the deceased.
The Senate Leader moved afterwards that Plenary be adjourned to another Legislative Day in honour of the late Honourable Wamakko and the Minority leader seconded.
The Plenary was then adjourned to Wednesday, 19th July, 2017 after which the gavel banged.
Meanwhile, the Senate President Saraki was in Sokoto, to commiserate with Governor Tambuwal and the people of Sokoto on the death of Hon. Wamakko.
He said: “I and three of my colleagues paid a condolence visit to Senator Wamakko and family.”
