Senator Ubah pledges to promote norms, values, traditions of Igbo race
As 2021 Afiaọlụ Nnewi festival commences
The candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah has called on Ndị Igbo to leave no stone unturned in promoting and protecting the values, norms and traditions of the Igbo race.
Senator Ubah made the call on Wednesday while attending the kick off of the 2021 Afiaọlụ Nnewi (New Yam Festival) at Enetedo, Nnewi.
According to him, the norms, values and traditions of Ndị Igbo must be protected at all cost and every Igbo man should always promote them anywhere he or she is.
Senator Ubah, who also described Ndị Igbo as a special race, used the opportunity to appreciate the Traditional Ruler of Nnewi, His Royal Highness Igwe Dr. Kenneth Orizu, CON for his giant efforts in promoting peace and unity in the community.
Speaking on the need for government to protect the culture and traditions of the people, the YPP governorship candidate, who was accompanied by his supporters, said that every official of government hails from a community guided by a tradition.
Therefore, it is a necessity for the government to protect the norms, values and traditions of the people.
He further reassured Ndị Nnewi and Anambrarians at large that if elected as governor, YPP government will not only put in place measures that will strengthen the tradition of the people but will also respect the powers of the state’s traditional institutions.
Also present at the colorful event which featured cutting of new yam by Igwe Nnewi and cultural displays by the community’s chief priests, priestesses, dance groups and masquerades were members of the Igwe Nnewi cabinet and three Obis of Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi communities.
