SERG Commends Ugwuanyi on Efforts to Prevent, Contain COVID-19


The South East Revival Group (SERG) has described Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi administration’s preventive measures and the handling of the COVID-19 virus scare in the state as “encouraging and typical of the administration’s love for the ordinary citizens in the state.”

In a statement issued in Abuja by the President and National Coordinator of the pan-South East pressure group, Chief Willy Ezugwu, the SERG urged the government “to continue to sensitise the people on the need to maintain personal hygiene.

“At this trying time in the country, everyone, including the government, needs to be spurred to go extra miles to ensure that the dreaded Coronavirus disease is contained throughout the country.

“For us, the government of Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has done well in its efforts to deal with the health challenges posed by the dread disease following the suspected COVID-19 case in the state.

“The immediate release of the sum of three hundred and twenty million Naira (N320m) to prevent and tackle the viral disease in case of out break is commendable.

“The Ugwuanyi administration has since approved the relocation and upgrade of the State Isolation Centre to the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu based on recommendations and in line with counsel from the country’s Centre for Disease Control.

“Due to his effective leadership qualities, which have robbed off on every aspect of governance in the state, the Governor Ugwuanyi administration quickly approved the immediate procurement of personal protective equipment, sanitizers, masks, respirators, and every other necessities to aid medical personnel in managing possible COVID-19 patients in the state.

“Further more, essential drugs were immediately procured with the sum of N80m for the management of not only Coronavirus disease but also Lassa fever and other infectious diseases.

“Other measures worth commending were the closure of all public, private primary and secondary schools in the state, the institution of the School Water Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (WASH) in Enugu schools, and statewide sensitisation on other standard hygiene protocols for prevention of COVID-19 infection, among others”, the SERG stated.
