Seven skills you must have as a content writer

Content Writing is the most important aspect of content creation and so can be very delicate. But not withstanding, it can be learnt and nurtured.

There are skills that will come in handy and necessary that every content writer or intending writers must have, learn and keep learning in. It doesn’t mean these skills are they only needed skills but at least, they are the very basic of it and a headstart to grow and nuture your writing skill.

What are these skills you might be wondering.

1) Research skill: This one is very and most important. As a writer, it cannot be overemphasize. You need to be able to dig in really deep to bring out relevant and up to date information. You don’t know it all as a writer, I hope you know that. So you need to be able to research well to gather important and relevant fact and information.

Researching here is not just in search engines like Google. Research here also means you are able to dig up information in different social media platform. Staying up to demand, date and trend is important for you as a writer, that is why you need to have the skill of researching to stay up to demand in different seasons.

2) Adaptability skill: This one too is important. Every client, platform and individuals have their styles, flow and tune. When you meet such, you need to be able to adapt to their way and how they want their writing to be.

Adaptability is also learning to know how to write value post when needed, or adjusting to salesy content when it is needed, or fun content. This comes in adaptability too.

3) Communication skill: After gathering facts and information, you need to convey your message to your audience. This communication skill will help you to structure your message and deliver it well in order to appeal your ideal audience.

4) Editing skill: It is not just to write or convey your message. It is also necessary that your audience can read your message smoothly, without having hard time while reading it. That is why you need to learn at least, basic editing skills to write content free from typos and grammatical errors.

5) Basic technical skill: Do you think, as a writer you are exempted from learning technical skill.

Well, don’t get overwhelmed by the technical skill mentioned. Basic of it, is enough for a headstart.

Learning to use tools for content management like your Google docs, sheets, drive, ever note, wps office, canva e.tc
Even collaboration tools like Google docs, slack, trellis e.t.c and other productivity tools are necessary you learn them as a writer.

6) Time management skill: This is the last, but not the least. As a writer, you need to be able to manage your time effectively. This will help you do your chunks of research and writing effectively without getting distracted.

So in time management, you need to learn how to get focus without getting distracted. You don’t have all the time in the world as a writer, especially when you need to meet deadlines. Time management will help you maximize your time well and meet up those deadlines.

7. STORYTELLING AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS are inalienable and very crucial for creating contents that converts readers to potential customers.

Telling compelling story that grabs the attention of your readers is essential in persuading them to take action.

There is a deep connection between humans and storytelling that can never be over emphasize, hence making it an important asset to have.
