Sex for mark: OAU lecturer—Akindele loses appeal
A former lecturer of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Mr. Richard Akindele, who was sentenced to six years imprisonment for demanding sex for marks from one of his students, Monica Osagie has lost the appeal.
Mr. Akindele had approached the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, through his counsel, Mr Ijatuyi.
He prayed the court to overturn the judgment, not satisfied with the decision of the lower court.
He has, meanwhile, served and completed his jail term and was released from prison in 2020.
Challenging his conviction, Akindele premised his petition on the grounds that the High Court lacked the jurisdiction to try him.
In the appeal filed by Akindele’s counsel, Mr Ijatuyi, he held that the case should have been heard at the National Industrial Court.
This, according to him, is because the offence bordered on the matter that happened at his place of work.
The appellate court, however, on Friday, struck out the appeal as lacking in merit and upheld the judgement of the trial court.
