Shehu Sani Invited By Police over Murder Case
The Kaduna police command has invited the Senator representating Kaduna Centra, Shehu Sani, to appear before it on April 30 over suspicion of murder in an ongoing homicide case.
The Kaduna State Commissioner for Police, Mr. Austin Iwar personally wrote the letter inviting him for questioning.
In the letter, CP Iwar said that “this is in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide transferred to this office by 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, alongside with exhibit audio CD in which your name was mentioned by the principal suspect.”
“This is to enable us fairly and timely conclude investigation into the matter,” he added.
Indicating that the matter was not politically-motivated, he explained that the case was transferred to him and that he is the person handling the case.
The police chief said that he would not give further details on the matter as it is currently under investigation.
“We don’t think we have reached a stage yet where we could inform the public about it,” he noted.
The letter was addressed to the Senator through the Clerk of the National Assembly and was copied to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
He assured him that he will not be detained if he honoured the invitation as the police could have done so earlier if need had been.
Reacting shortly after receiving the invite, the Senator wrote on his Facebook page:
“Just received the news that NURTW chieftain in Birnin Gwari LG in Kaduna state and his executives have been kidnapped by armed men.
”This is the state of Kaduna state while the Governor’s immediate concern is fighting perceived political enemies and given outsiders a false impression about the state.”
It is not immediately clear if he was alluding to the invitation by the state police chief, or not.
Shehu Sani, it could be recalled, has been enmeshed in an endless war with the Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
He has also made tongue-in-cheek comments about the government of President Muhammadu Buhari over its choice of policies.
