Shiites Persecution: Buhari is dragging Nigeria into Arab/ Persian war —Fani-Kayode
A former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode has warned President Muhammadu Buhari of the consequences of “murdering, maiming, detaining, persecuting, tormenting, clamping down on and banning the 26 million strong Shia Muslims of Nigeria”, known as the Islamic Movement of Nigeria [IMN].
According Mr. Fani-Kayode, by that action President Buhari is dragging Nigeria into a Muslim sectarian conflict and an Arab versus Persian proxy war which may never end.
In a short memo made available to ElombahNews on Monday, Fani-Kayode warned that the Shiites might not be easy to exterminate as the Buhari administration makes it seem.
He said: “The Shia Muslims have strong, battlehardened, war-tested, well-armed, well-motivated, well-funded, highly professional, functional, active, experienced standing armies and militias in Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen and Syria and a strong military presence all over the Middle East.
“They are supported, backed and funded by Iran and they have warm relations with Qatar.
“By murdering, maiming, detaining, persecuting, tormenting, clamping down on and banning the 26 million strong Shia Muslims of Nigeria Buhari is dragging us into a Muslim sectarian conflict and an Arab versus Persian proxy war which may never end.”
Alluding to the high-handedness of the Buhari-led government against its perceived opponents, he said:
“This is what happens when an unrepentant Salafist and hard-line Islamist Wahabbi jihadist that is in the pocket and under the control of Saudi Arabia sits on the throne.
“He sees every Shia, Sufi, Ahmadiyya, non-Fulani Muslim, non-Sunni Muslim and every Christian, every southerner, every Middle Belter and ever northerner that is not a pure-blooded Fulani as a slave, a heretic, a sub-human and a dangerous enemy that must be captured, conquered, subjugated, suppressed, deprived, denied, tormented, humiliated, discredited, maligned, broken, crushed and brought to his knees.
“Worse of all he has a pathological hatred and malevolent intentions for ALL those who dare to criticise or oppose him.”
In another statement issued on Sunday, Fani-Kayode decried the banning of the movement and warned the president to “stop this Salafist Saudi Arabian-sponsored nonsense at once before it is too late and before Hezbollah decides to join the fray and come to Nigeria”.
“He said: “You ban IMN and then you say that you are not banning the Shia Muslims from practising their faith?
“How would Buhari and the Sunni Muslims feel if JNI or SCIA were banned and labelled as terrorist organisations?
“What Buhari has done to IMN is shameful and unconstitutional.
“It is an attempt to stop the Shia from practising their faith and to demonise, terrorise, intimidate, scatter, outlaw and destroy them.
“Nigeria is a secular state and Buhari cannot stop ANYBODY from exercising his or her ight to freedom of worship and association.
“He should stop this Salafist Saudi Arabian-sponsored nonsense at once before it is too late and before Hezbollah decides to join the fray and come to Nigeria. We do not want a replica of the Syrian war in our country!
“Buhari, free El Zak Zaky and leave the Shia Muslims alone!” he warned.
The Shiites had in a statement issued on Sunday, vowed not to relent in their religious struggles until their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakaky is released.
Meanwhile, a High Court sitting in Abuja had postponed the bail application of El-Zakaky and his wife, Zeenat, to August 5 for deliberation.
