Our great party in the South East Nigeria commend the government and people of Imo State for their efforts to stem a difficult situation occasioned by natural and artificial factors.
We condemn the assassination of Hon Dr. Ahmed Gulak, former state legislator in Adamawa State, former presidential aide and prominent stakeholder of our great party in Owerri.
We pray God to grant his family, the government and people of Adamawa State the fortitude to bear his loss.
We deprecate the burning of INEC offices in locations across the South East numbering up to 10 at the last count, and note that those forces with intent to create anarchy in the South East, must be assisted to fail.
South East political office holders shall continue to emerge through elections in line with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or any future extant constitution(s).
We commend the intervention of the Federal Government to restore order, but note with concern that there are noticeable cases of human right violations which has led to the arrest and injury to presumably innocent persons.
In this wise we commend the new partnership between the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Gov. Hope Uzodimma and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Imo State Chapter, which has led to a conscious effort to document and take action on some cases of miscarriage of police action. We urge those with genuine complaints to place them on record immediately and keep the issues alive in a civil way.
We urge interest groups to take advantage of the ongoing, but under-focused review of the 1999 Constitution and propose any desired changes to life, union, structure and composition of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in a way that violence cannot avail.
We urge all Nigerians to avoid fake news which is profiting some enemies of progress to the detriment of Nigeria and be wary of underlying interests of Social Media Platform owners, who cannot stand the rising profile of Nigeria.
Finally we congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari on his lavish achievements in infrastructure in the South East including Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressway, Enugu – Onitsha Expressway amid virtually all federal roads, Onitsha Port, Second Niger Bridge, Airports, Railway installations and Technology Centres, among others.
We wish the president and his government well in the remaining two years of his tenure and look forward to the president being succeeded by another competent president, this time of South East extraction-who will sustain and improve on his good works in many facets.
