COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF SOUTH EAST YOUTH POLITICAL & ECONOMIC SUMMIT ORGANISED BY THE NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA SOUTH EAST HELD ON THE 28th JULY, 2017 AT THE CONFERENCE HALL OF LA CAFE QUEST HOUSE PROFESSOR DORA AKUNYILI WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, AWKA ANAMBRA STATE.
The summit which had in attendance present and past national leaders, delegates from the five Eastern States, member of the Board of Trustee, Advisory council of South East, different youths and student groups x-rayed the agitation by different groups. The youth involvement in policy formulation and challenges faced by the South East Youths. At the end of the summit, the following resolutions were reacted;
◾ Call on South East Governors to urgently expand their budget committee as to involve the Youth and physically challenged persons in their states. This will ensure that Youth development programmes are given priority in the budget.
◾ The summit observed with total dismay the marginalisation suffered by the South East which has rekindled the agitation for BIAFRA and called on the President Muhammadu Buhari led federal Government to ensure that there is equitable distribution.
◾ The summit further observed the need to restructure thid country to give room for resource control and regional government so as to reduce the call for independence by different groups.
◾ The summit calls on the federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the safety of lives and properties of all Nigerians no matter where they live. Particularly call on them to ensure the safety of our people living in the Northern part of the country.
◾ The summit condemned the call on Ndi Anambra by IPOB to boycott the upcoming gubernatorial elections and called on security agencies to ensure the safety of voters before, during and after the election.
◾ The summit commended the host Governor H/E Willie Obiano for the quality and massive infrastructure development and the appointment given to the Youth in the state and equally called on other state Governors to replicate such in their various states.
◾ The summit thanked the guest speakers, Mark Okoye and Pharm. Obinna Emeneka for their time and quality lectures and also the Deputy Speaker DSHA for their show of support.
